5 – Death Note

I did not read the manga prior to watching the show, so all of it was a surprise to me. The intellectual battle between Light and L was fantastic and I was bummed to see it end. Wasn’t a huge fan of Near and Mello. I would probably have preferred they just did the L arc. Oh well.

4 – Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei

Comedy in the weirdest ways possible. The uniqueness to each character made this, and it’s sequel, very memorable.

3 – Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

I don’t like mechs. In fact, most of the time the simple fact that a show has a mech makes me steer clear of it. Somehow TTGL won me over. The over-the-top battles and characters really brought life to this one.

2 – The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Pure goodness. I really cannot find something that is really a major flaw in this show. Plus the fact that it can be watched in two different orders brings me back to it time and time again. Also, KyoAni and Hirano Aya don’t hurt.

1 – Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

From the first scene of the first episode I was hooked. The cute characters and feel to the the first episode or two really set me into this “oh, another slice-of-life show…yay” Then things started to get fucked up, and I mean fucked up. This show had some of the most disturbing scenes I’ve seen in a cartoon. Hot damn.
